JP Scientific

JP Scientific provides technical editing, proof reading and electronic publication services, specialising in scientific documents initially produced in an international environment. The company which is operated by John Poole is based in the United Kingdom and contracts are undertaken from around the world.

Technical Editing

Whilst employed at CERN, John Poole published many scientific papers and was editor of a number of publications such as the LHC Design Report which ran to some 1100 pages. He was editor of the Proceedings of the European Particle Accelerator Conference from 1996 to 2006 and had an advisory capacity for 2008. Since leaving CERN he has edited/proof read a large number of documents for international organisations including the ITER Plant Control Design Handbook and all of the documentation for the final design review of the ITER plant control system. JP Scientific specialises in editing scientific documents which have been written by authors of many nationalities, sometimes in French, and the result is always a coherent and polished final document in English.

Electronic Publication

In 1995 John Poole introduced electronic publishing at CERN with the Proceedings of the LEP Performance Workshop which was the first accelerator conference or workshop to be published electronically. This was followed by pioneering work on scientific open archive publication on the Web. He was the creator and Chairman of the Joint Accelerator Conferences Website (JACoW) from its inception in 1998 until 2007. In recent years JP Scientific has converted many legacy conference proceedings for publication on JACoW by scanning the original books, producing the metadata for indexing and constructing the web pages.
